Multifunctional orthosis for stabilization of the lower spine
Following an injury or condition of the lumbar spinal column causing lower lumbar pain and instability such as vertebral displacement (spondylolisthesis) or lower lumbar vertebral fractures, mobilization of the muscles of the back can be promoted with varying degrees of intensity using the modular orthosis SoftTec® Lumbo allowing for proper promotion of mobility and greater gains throughout rehabilitation. Individual components of the orthosis can be added, replaced or removed as required to provide appropriate control and compression when necessary. Treatment module by module
The SofTec® Lumbo consists of a semi-rigid knitted corset made from Bauerfeind's patented SofTec Knit, an anatomically shaped plastic shell and one pair of stiff carbon fiber rods and one pair of flexible aluminum stays. These adaptable components can be added and removed from the orthoses to provide the necessary control and compression needed throughout recovery. This innovative design allows for initial control of motion when support is needed and allows the orthosis to be adapted as greater movement and freedom are needed.
Comfort and function
The famous spinal surgeon Prof. Jürgen Harms worked with Bauerfeind on the design of the SofTec® Lumbo orthosis. When selecting the materials and building up the different components, special attention was paid to ensuring that the patient would not only progress in their treatment, but would also find the orthosis easy to put on and comfortable to wear. Attention to detail was not spared, as special finger pockets to make provide easy donning even for weak patients.
